History
Spar Hotel is a hotel concept that emerged during the winter of 1992 – 93. At the time, the market was primarily dominated by expensive four-star hotels. We identified a need for more affordable accommodations — a three-star hotel. With this in mind, we created our concept: to offer high standards at a low price. In other words, a hotel that provides a lot of value for less money.
Spar Hotel Majorna
Our first hotel, Spar Hotel Majorna, was previously known as Hotel Carl Johan and was originally built in 1968. It is located on Karl Johansgatan in the Majorna district. In the summer of 1992, the property owner, Bygg-Göta Göteborg AB, decided to renovate the hotel and operate it under their own management.
On February 1, 1993, 48 rooms were completed, with Siewert as our very first guest. The remaining 102 rooms were opened on June 1, and the hotel was officially inaugurated on June 3, 1993.
In 2009, Spar Hotel Majorna underwent a complete renovation, adding additional rooms and a suite. Today, the hotel has a total of 212 rooms.
Spar Hotel Gårda
Our second hotel, Spar Hotel Gårda, was previously known as Hotel Tre Kronor. Built in 1969, it is located on Norra Kustbanegatan in the Gårda district. In 1993, the property owner, Bygg-Göta Göteborg AB, decided to renovate the hotel and manage it themselves.
Hotel Tre Kronor was completed in February 1994 and was incorporated into the Spar Hotel brand in December 1995, taking on the name Spar Hotel Gårda. The hotel rooms, dining area, bar, and reception were renovated in 2012/2013.
