Our Respon­si­bil­i­ty

At Spar Hotel, we work long-term with envi­ron­men­tal care, social sus­tain­abil­i­ty, and qual­i­ty. We want our two hotels to be good for our guests, our employ­ees, and the city we oper­ate in. Since 2006, we have been cer­ti­fied by Green Key, and we con­tin­ue to devel­op our efforts every year.

Envi­ron­ment & Climate

What We Do Today

  • Both hotels are cer­ti­fied by Green Key.

  • We use 100% renew­able elec­tric­i­ty (Bra Miljöval).

  • Ener­gy con­sump­tion is reduced through smart con­trol of heat­ing, ven­ti­la­tion, and lighting.

  • House­keep­ing is car­ried out on request only, sav­ing ener­gy, water, and chemicals.

  • Only eco-labelled clean­ing prod­ucts and toi­letries are used.

  • Sin­gle-use items are used only when nec­es­sary, such as cof­fee and tea ameni­ties in the rooms.

  • We sort waste through­out the entire operation.

  • We work to increase the share of local­ly pro­duced, organ­ic, and veg­e­tar­i­an products.

  • We use only MSC- or ASC-cer­ti­fied fish and seafood.

  • We reduce trans­port emis­sions through con­sol­i­dat­ed deliv­er­ies and sus­tain­able purchasing.

Social Respon­si­bil­i­ty & Com­mu­ni­ty Engagement

  • Göte­borgs Stadsmis­sion (Gothen­burg City Mission)
    We work con­tin­u­ous­ly with Stadsmis­sio­nen through var­i­ous cam­paigns and initiatives.
  • Real Stars – Hotels Against Trafficking
    We take a clear stand against traf­fick­ing. As part of Real­Stars’ indus­try ini­tia­tive, we col­lab­o­rate with the police when­ev­er there is sus­pi­cion of crim­i­nal activity.
  • CleanSea – Björ­lan­da Kile
    We have adopt­ed a coastal bay on the west coast through CleanSea. This means we fund sev­er­al beach clean-ups each year and receive reports, pho­tos, and sta­tis­tics from every operation.

Finan­cial & Eth­i­cal Responsibility

  • We com­ply with all laws, agree­ments, and indus­try stan­dards through Visita.
  • No one should be exposed to dis­crim­i­na­tion or harass­ment – not staff, guests, or partners.
  • We work active­ly to ensure fair con­di­tions, a healthy work envi­ron­ment, and safe workplaces.
  • Our pur­chas­ing pol­i­cy guides us toward eco-labelled prod­ucts, local pro­duc­tion, long life cycles, and fair conditions.

Qual­i­ty & Safety

  • We car­ry out reg­u­lar inter­nal checks of clean­ing, break­fast, and service.
  • Guest feed­back from sur­veys and in-room cards is reviewed every week.
  • We work active­ly with rou­tines relat­ed to fire safe­ty, work­place envi­ron­ment, and over­all security.
  • Staff receive ongo­ing train­ing in ser­vice, sus­tain­abil­i­ty, and safety.
  • We use Val­pas bed legs, which help us detect and pre­vent pests at an ear­ly stage – com­plete­ly with­out chemicals.

How You as a Guest Can Contribute

  • Opt out of dai­ly housekeeping
  • Turn off the lights and take your key card with you when leav­ing the room
  • Take small­er por­tions more often at breakfast
  • Use our waste-sort­ing stations
  • Trav­el by pub­lic trans­port or carpool
  • Leave the car parked dur­ing your stay
  • Refill your water bot­tles with tap water
