Gårda originally belonged to Örgryte, but in 1922 became a part of Gothenburg, with which it has long since merged. Around the turn of the last century, many industries established themselves in the area and Gårda changed its character and became a working-class district. Tomten’s factories, Apotekerne’s and Gothenburg’s rem factory are some examples. The tram has also long had stables here and now also a museum. Today, however, most factories and workers have been replaced by offices and academics. A short walk takes you to Skansen Lejonet or Ullevi — but it’s not really far to anything in the city. Most things can be reached quickly by tram, such as e.g. The Swedish Fair, Avenyn, Liseberg, the Trädgårdsföreningen and Scandinavium. If you want to have fun in Gothenburg, Gårda is thus an excellent starting point.
