Mission Statement & History
Mission statement
Spar Hotel is a hotel concept that developed in the winter of 92–93, when the market consisted mainly of expensive, four-star hotels. We saw a need for a less expensive hotel, a three-star. And that was the basis of our hotel concept: to offer high standards at a low price. A hotel that gives you a lot of hotel for a little money. Our mission is:
"We offer hotel accommodation that exceeds our guests’ expectations, for cost-conscious business and leisure travellers, alone or in groups, near the centre of Gothenburg."
History
Our first hotel, the Spar Hotel Majorna, was previously called the Hotell Carl Johan and was built in 1968. It’s on Karl Johansgatan in the Majorna district. In the summer of 1992, property owner Bygg-Göta Gothenburg AB decided to renovate the hotel and run it on their own. On 1 February 1993, 48 rooms were at the ready and Siewert was our first guest. The other 102 rooms opened on 1 June, and the hotel was formally opened on 3 June 1993.
Our second hotel, the Spar Hotel Gårda, was formerly the Hotell Tre Kronor, built in 1969 on Norra Kustbanegatan, in the Gårda district. In 1993 property owner Bygg-Göta Gothenburg AB decided to renovate the hotel and run it on their own. The Hotell Tre Kronor was done in February 1994, and in December 1995 it was taken into the Spar Hotel system and renamed Spar Hotel Gårda.
Since the start of Spar Hotel, 1 million guests have stayed with us. And we hope you’ll join them!
